In the study, an adaptive P and PI control strategy for solar-driven biogas/steam modified reactor (SVMSR) with passive thermal management characteristics was proposed, aiming to stabilize product composition and hydrogen production under constantly changing solar radiation conditions. With the idea of adaptive control, an adaptive rule was established to obtain proper controller settings by exploring the relationship between solar variation characteristics and proper control targets. P and PI controllers were combined with 2D multi-physics reactor model to realize control objectives. Finally, the adaptive rule and P and PI control strategy were tested under varying solar radiation. The results showed that with the guidance of the adaptive rule, the dual controllers could improve the average hydrogen production while significantly reducing the fluctuation of hydrogen production while maintaining the stability of product composition under the changing radiation conditions.
