Abstract: The crude oil unit is the first working unit of crude oil fractionation units in all refinery
units . B y the theory of fault tree in reliability analysis , t h is paper set up the fault tree of the crude
oil unit in processing heavy oil . The A nalysis result based on the fault tree shows that one of the
main invalidation reasons that affect the crude oil unit in processing heavy oil is naphthenic acid
corrosion. T he analysis of the corrosion mechanism and influencing factors has been studied in
this paper, including a corrosion experiment research of the corrosion rate of several materials in
different temperatures, consistence and velocity. B y the experiment , some important data has been
recorded . I ntegrated analysis on the experiment result and the fault tree, it has been found that the
factors deeply and directly affects the corrosion rate of the naphthenic acid, such as the
temperature, consistence, relatively move speed, material, and so on. A nd the relationship is a
complex nonlinear problem.

is rich in the world, and the output of highly acidic

has approximately occupied above 30% of output of crude
oil
at present

ecent years, highly acidic heavy

has been increasing incessantly, and the
quality of crude
oil
in some production areas has been dropping gradually.
The crude
oil
unit is the first working unit of crude
oil
fractionation units in
all
refinery units .

provide s the raw material for the later two process es and is the key
equipment to make crude
oil
into gasoline , petroleum , diesel oil, wax oil, residual
oil
and so on. T herefore , the crude
oil
unit

s safe and steady running is directly relat ed to
the entire refinery production benefit. Since long ago, the question of refinery units

security and reliab

ity always is the point to affect the safe and long

period working
of refinery units. The corrosion occurs on the crude
oil
unit frequently and makes it go
wrong. S o, the research to the security and reliability of the crude
oil
unit of refinery
is a important and difficult question need to be solved.
