Recently, with the rapid development of molds, the requirements for the surface quality of mold processing have been continuously improving, and the surface processing technology of wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) has received increasing attention. This requires improving the mechanical performance of the processed surface and reducing surface roughness in order to extend the service life of the mold. This article introduces the processing principle of wire EDM and the application of working medium. It explores and discusses the basic principles and rules of traditional wire EDM. The development of a new method for wire EDM is described, which can improve the processing accuracy under suitable conditions. In high-speed wire EDM, the machining reaction force and vibration of the wire electrode are small due to the high wire speed. In addition, the discharge gap can be narrower than traditional wire EDM under certain conditions, resulting in less workpiece corrosion. High-precision finishing can be achieved in high-speed wire EDM. This article introduces the phenomena that occur during the wire EDM process and provides relevant explanations.
