In recent years, the rapid development of smart phones has drastically changed people's lives. The advent of the mobile internet era has made it no longer a luxury for people to have a powerful smartphone in hand. However, as the issue of population aging becomes increasingly severe, the investment in the elderly market in the smartphone market still lags behind the pace of social development. Due to declining eyesight, elderly people find it challenging to read text in newspapers, and prolonged use of glasses can worsen eye fatigue. This design proposes the possibility of using smartphones to help elderly people read newspapers and has developed an application based on Android smartphones. The design features a newspaper reader based on an Android smartphone that can convert images taken by the camera into text and read it aloud, while also supporting functions such as storing newspaper content, adjusting volume, and customizing language for reading, thus greatly alleviating the inconveniences faced by elderly people when reading newspapers. The paper first introduces the Android development platform and the Cordova cross-platform development solution, then analyzes all the functional requirements of the application in detail. It combines basic knowledge of application development to explain the necessary knowledge points for development, and provides a detailed code implementation plan.
