Linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal is a type of signal with a large time-bandwidth product. The phase spectrum of LFM signal exhibits a characteristic square-law behavior, which allows for significant compression ratio during pulse compression. One of the major advantages of LFM signal is that the matched filter used is insensitive to the Doppler frequency shift of the echo signal. This means that a single matched filter can be used to process echo signals with different Doppler frequency shifts, simplifying the radar signal processing system significantly. Additionally, LFM signal offers excellent range resolution and radial velocity resolution. Due to these advantages, LFM signal is commonly used in modern high-performance radar systems. Compared to other pulse compression signals, LFM signal is easy to generate using digital technology and is well-established technically, making it widely applicable in engineering. This paper discusses the simulation of LFM signal using MATLAB, providing a comprehensive overview of the signal characteristics and the simulation process. Keywords: MATLAB; Linear frequency modulation; Pulse compression; System simulation.
