The multi-layer hot press is a key piece of equipment for producing plywood, chipboard, MDF board, and other engineered boards. While the current hot presses produced by equipment manufacturers are already well-established, there is a need to improve the structural performance and reduce manufacturing costs. This undergraduate thesis focuses on the design of a five-layer side pressure hot press and specifically analyzes and calculates the structure, strength, and stiffness of the important component - the lower platen. This design optimization results in a more structurally sound lower platen that not only reduces material and energy consumption but also increases productivity.
Incorporating existing design principles, the hot press frame predominantly utilizes a steel plate welded closed structure. This design choice simplifies manufacturing as it does not require large processing equipment. Common materials like I-beams and angle steel are chosen for construction, and the steel plate welding process is used, ensuring good manufacturing feasibility that most mechanical workshops can handle. CAD and Pro/Engineer software were predominantly used for engineering drawings and stress analysis, respectively.
The design and analysis of the multi-layer hot press are crucial in enhancing the overall performance and efficiency of the equipment. By implementing structural improvements and utilizing common materials and manufacturing processes, this design not only meets the required specifications but also ensures practicality and ease of production, highlighting the importance of innovation and optimization in mechanical design and manufacturing.
