—
In this paper, we offer a new type of vehicle detection
method based on the strength of the signal transmission with
adopting CC1101 wireless communication chip, and RSSI
(Received Signal Strength Indication) value of the data receiving
node is different when there is a car or no car on the parking
space. Through a large number of nodes arranged on the parking
space, the data receiving node sends data that includes RSSI
value and parking space state information to sink node
constantly. Next, sink node receives data and uploads to system
monitoring terminal. The experiment results show that vehicle
detection method is high of accuracy, strong robustness and good
reliability.

I. INTRODUCTION
With the rapid development of intelligent transportation
industry, vehicle information collection has been covered in
parking lots, streets and highways on a large scale. At present,
there are main vehicle information collection methods
including toroid, video, microwave and magnetic resistance
sensor [1]-[5], etc. internationally. Circular coil is high of
precision and simple structure. However, it cannot be applied
on a large scale because of installation. Video detector needs
high cost and is low detection precision in the bad weather
environment or at night. Microwave is applied to speed
detection in high speed road because it is installed easily, but
it can be affected easily by the surrounding environment. All
the devices will need to be equipped on the parking space if
we use these methods, more importantly, and sensor
arrangement and late artificial maintenance will greatly
increase the cost of equipment.
According to the demand of vehicle detection in the
market, this paper introduces a measuring method based on
RSSI value. The data sending node and the data receiving
node are installed in below and above of parking space
respectively, and the data receiving node sends RSSI value to
sink node during the date sending node communicates with the
data receiving node. RSSI value is different when there is a
car or no car on the parking space, and change is obvious
particularly. So, we can judge whether there is a car or not by
the change of RSSI value.
In short, in this paper, the vehicles detection based on
RSSI value is discussed. Through some results, we can find
that this method has a good application prospect, and it is
worth attention and researching further. Figure 1 is system
design diagram.

I. THE BASIC PRINCIPLE OF RSSI
As an important quality indicator of WSN (Wireless
Sensor Networks) network connection, RSSI value is widely
used in positioning, distance estimation, link quality
estimation and other areas. In WSN application study, vehicle
detection is not a new field, and many scholars have studied
vehicles detection. Earlier, many scholars use all kinds of
