Abstract With the development of modern science and technology, many new fields have emerged. In order to achieve close-range, high-precision wireless measurement of objects, this paper explores the field of infrared ranging. This paper uses a microcontroller as the processor, writes A/D conversion programs and LCD display programs, and utilizes an infrared sensor as the working module to complete a high-precision display and real-time measurement infrared ranging system. This system has a simple structure, small size, high measurement accuracy, low cost, and easy to use. The system introduced in this paper is a design of an infrared ranging system based on the STM32 microcontroller and Sharp GP2Y0A21 infrared sensor. Firstly, it introduces the classification and application of infrared rays and infrared sensors, as well as an introduction and functions of the STM32 microcontroller. Secondly, it describes the working principle and basic structure of the infrared ranging system, and introduces the working circuits of the microcontroller, infrared sensor, and LCD liquid crystal display. Thirdly, the paper presents the overall design concept of the system, designs the hardware and software of the system, and conducts debugging of the entire system. Finally, the entire design is summarized, demonstrating the feasibility of the infrared ranging system. Keywords: Infrared ranging; Microcontroller; A/D conversion; LCD
