Directive 94/9/EC
ATEX INTRINSICALLY SAFE RADIOS
Certain VHF/UHF radio models are approved for use in environments according to the IECEx scheme and ATEX
EC Directive 94/9/EC.
These IECEx models are marked with the approval number IECExBVS 07.0001X.
The Intrinsically safe protection rating for these models are:
Ex ib IIC T4 (Equipment group II, Gas group IIC Temperature class T4)
Ex tD A22 IP5x T60°C (Equipment group II)
Ex ib I (Equipment group I)
These ATEX models are marked with the approval number BVS 05 ATEX E 082.
The Intrinsically safe protection rating for these models are:
ll 2G EEx ib llC T4 (Approved for Zone 1, Equipment group II, Gas group C Temperature classT4)
ll 3D IP5x T60°C (Approved for Zone 22, Equipment group II)
l M2 EEx lb I (Equipment group I)
The following points MUST be observed to maintain the ATEX protection rating:
• THE RADIO MUST BE OPERATED IN ITS LEATHER CASE AT ALL TIMES. It is mandatory that the radio
is not removed from its case in hazardous areas. Ensure that the leather case is in good condition,
otherwise it MUST be repaired or replaced.
• Attach the ATEX Classification label to the Radio Check Pack MDHLN6602A and Radio PAk™
MDRLN4815A carry cases before using the radio.
• Use ONLY Motorola batteries with part number NNTN5510AR for Group II and batteries with the Group I for
Group I.
• Battery charging must occur ONLY in non-hazardous areas. After charging, the radio must be left to rest for
at least 3 minutes.
• When the radio is used in a hazardous area, it is mandatory that either the protective cover
(Part No. 1586059A01 – part of kit GMLN4226A) for the universal connector or an ATEX approved
accessory is fitted.
• Use only ATEX approved accessories in the hazardous areas. Connect and disconnect these accessories
only outside the hazardous areas. See separate leaflet (6816237H01) for a list of ATEX approved
accessories.
• Ensure that there is no external damage to the radio as it may compromise the safety and integrity of the
unit, for example, an antenna with damaged insulation or with a missing end cap must NOT be used in a
hazardous environment, it MUST be repaired or replaced.
• The safety and integrity of the unit may also be compromised by, for example:
Damage sustained during transit/incorrect storage.
Functionality errors occur/correct certification is illegible.
Exposure to excessive loads/permitted limitations are exceeded.
• Servicing of intrinsically safe radios and fitting of option boards must be carried out ONLY by Motorola I.S.
trained personnel, who are aware of the special parts required and the procedures necessary to maintain
the ATEX conformance of the product. Contact your Motorola representative for details.
• Use ONLY the ATEX certified leather carry case – standard carry cases must NOT be used.
• Metal belt clips should NOT be used with the radio.
• The radio will only withstand impact forces about 4 joules for the enclosure and 2 joules for lenses and light
transmitting parts.
• Check the ATEX classification of each accessory before using, some accessory are only certified for use in
gas environment – not for dust.
• Ambient temperature range for the radio -20°C up to +50°C.
• Check the ATEX Classification of each accessory before using for group I.
