2. Introduction
The D017M is a multipurpose PCIe-MVB interface in a PCIe Minicard form factor. The
D017M comes in three different hardware variants:
• Y-Type: On-board transceivers, 20pin frontconnector. MVB connection through
an Y-Cable with attached D-Sub connectors.
• I-Type: On-board transceivers, 10pin front connector. MVB attachment through
a D-SUB adapter board.
• X-Type: No on-bard transceivers, 10pin front connector. MVB attachment
through a dedicated physical layer board.
All features of the MVB architecture are available:
• Process Data and Message Data (Bus Administrator as an option)
• Physical Layer: EMD or ESD+
The D017M is available in two congurations:
• MDFULL(-P): MVB interface with a full-featured duagon MVB controller)
• SERVER(-PM): MVB controller including the Message Data Real Time Proto-
col stack MD RTP. This approach minimizes the CPU requirements of the host
system, because the major part of the communication software is running on
the duagon interface.
The D017M complies to the TCN standard IEC61375. It is designed for harsh traction
environments and conforms to the standards EN50121 / EN50155 / EN61373, e.g. by:
• -40 to +85°C operating temperature
• conformal coating against humidity
• enhanced EMI and vibration robustness
Other Members of the D017M Product Family
Other eldbus interfaces for Ethernet (D017E) and CAN (D017C) with the same me-
chanical footprint and electrical host interface are available on request.

nally dened, yet. These details are marked with ”tbd”, ”to be dened”. In a next version
of this document, the ”tbd” will be replaced by the nal product properties.

The SoC (System on Chip) contains the local microprocessor and all relevant logic cir-
cuitry, like MVB controller, memory controller, host interface controller, etc. This com-
ponent is implemented as a programmable logic device. This ensures the versatile
change of e.g. controller specications, bug xes after hardware production and fu-
ture portability to new silicon technologies.
The PCI-Express (PCIe) host interface ensures a data communication path between
the D017M and the CPU of the host system.
The MVB interface supports both wire based standards, the ESD+ and the EMD;
both with galvanic insulation. The front end comes in three different styles:
• Y-Type: On-board transceivers, 20pin frontconnector. MVB connection through
an Y-Cable with attached D-Sub connectors.
• I-Type: On-board transceivers, 10pin front connector. MVB attachment through
a D-SUB adapter board.
• X-Type: No transceivers, 10pin front connector. MVB attachment through a
dedicated physical layer board.
