Abstract: The design of a digital frequency counter using a microcontroller is the topic of this undergraduate thesis. The project utilizes the AT89C51 microcontroller to count the pulses of a measured rectangular or square wave input. By utilizing the microcontroller's counter and timer functions, the measured signal is counted and the frequency data is displayed using a display circuit. The aim of this design is to cultivate self-learning and hands-on skills by studying microcontroller principles and applications, as well as researching relevant materials. Throughout the design process, unknown knowledge is continuously supplemented, learned concepts are reinforced, discussions are held, scientific analysis methods are used to solve design difficulties, and the general development process of microcontroller systems is mastered. The project aims to learn how to handle common issues, accumulate system design experience, and fully realize the combination of teaching and practice to successfully design a digital frequency counter. Keywords: microcontroller; digital frequency counter; design.
