Network Engineer Exam English Vocabulary; A must-see English vocabulary for network engineer exams, here is a word document format for easy printing; 1. GB Ethernet, a new high-speed Ethernet specified by IEEE802.3 engineering. With a bandwidth of 1000Mbps, it can operate on short segments of UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) but usually runs on fiber optic media. 10Base2, an Ethernet based on the IEEE802.3 standard, uses copper cables as the medium and has a bus topology. 10Base2 is also called thinnet or thin Ethernet, derived from its speed of transmitting data at 10Mbps (hence "10Base") and its maximum segment length of 185 meters, approximately 200 meters (hence "2"). 10Base5, the original Ethernet standard, uses bus topology and thick coaxial cable. It is also called thicknet or thick Ethernet. Its name is derived from its speed of transmitting data at 10Mbps (hence "10Base") and its maximum segment length of 500 meters (hence "5"). 10BaseT, an Ethernet type that uses twisted-pair cable, either in a star-bus topology or tree topology. It transmits data at 10Mbps (hence "10Base") and requires twisted-pair cable ("T") as the medium. 100BaseT, a new Ethernet standard defined by IEEE802.3u, which allows Ethernet to increase the transmission speed of local area networks to 100Mbps without major investments or structural changes. 100BaseT operates in a star-bus topology or tree topology.
