This paper introduces the process of developing a student management information system in the Visual Basic 6.0 environment using the strategy of "top-down overall planning and bottom-up application development." By analyzing the shortcomings in student management at a certain school, an effective computer-based student management solution was created. The article covers the system analysis, including feasibility analysis and business process analysis; system design, including system functionality, database design, and code design; and system implementation, explaining the algorithms of several main modules. The system has a user-friendly interface, simple operation, and practicality. The key words are management information system, student management, and Visual Basic application. With the widespread and profound application of information technology in management, the implementation of management information systems has gradually matured. It is a new discipline that is constantly evolving, and any organization must establish a management information system that is adaptable to its own characteristics in order to survive, develop, and efficiently organize internal activities.
