Abstract In recent years, with the rapid development of technology, the application of microcontrollers is continuously advancing. In real-time detection and automatic control microcontroller application systems, the microcontroller is often used as a core component. However, knowledge of microcontrollers alone is not sufficient. It is also necessary to integrate specific hardware structures and software tailored to the specific application in order to achieve a comprehensive system. This paper first analyzes the research significance of intelligent traffic lights and the current research status of intelligent traffic lights, pointing out the shortcomings of current traffic lights and proposing improvement methods. The intelligent traffic light control system typically needs to achieve automatic control. This paper also introduces the structural characteristics and important pin functions of the AT89S51 microcontroller, and provides a detailed analysis of the design of the intelligent traffic light control system.
