Cisco IOS release naming conventions

Major/main releases:

12.0, 12.1, 12.2, etc.

- Managed by the IOS Technology Division

- New features are not allowed to be introduced in main

release

- Consolidates features, platforms, technology from

previous Early Deployment releases.

- Bring new development to the marketplace

- Each revision of an ED release can include bug

fixes as well as new features or platform support

- Periodically features and platforms are ported to

next main IOS release.

- Less Stable because of new features

- Examples include 12.1T, 12.0(1)S, 12.1(2)E

- Types of Early Deployment releases:

Consolidated Technology (T train)
