Editor’s Notes, revision 3.3 (comment resolution, 1st letter ballot):
• In EFP, the value 0x01 is used for forcing a switch to become Principal, 0x02 is used for prior assign.
• An FC-SW compliant implementation can have one Switch Port (this is for FC-BB).
• Added another case for E_Port Isolation in 7.4.
• A few minor editorial items. I also finally ran spell check and picked up a few booboos.
Editor’s Notes, revision 3.2 (for 1st letter ballot):
• The RDI SW_ILS now has the ability to request more than one contiguous Domain_ID.
• The ELP SW_ILS has had the “Profile” specific information replaced with “E_Port Credit Parameters”.
• A couple of figures were added to 7.2 and 7.3, to hopefully clarify some of the processes.
• In Annex C, the term “Static Switch” is changed to “Link Switch”.
Editor’s Notes, revision 3.1:
• The “Domain_Map” has been changed to a “Domain_ID_List”. This change makes it unambiguous as to who
owns an ID when the EFP is distributed.
• “Domain Address Manager” and “Area Address Manager” were mostly removed in favor of “Principal Switch”
to reduce a bit of terminology glut.
• Added some more description to clause 5. Hope you like it.
• Clarification was added in several places to note that the Class F data field size may be increased via the ELP
service.
• LSU, LSA, HLO were removed. They will be defined in SW-2.
• Added section on SW_ACC.
• Moved SEQ bit in ELP to match FC-PH convention.
• Added Receive Data Field Size for Class 1 parameters in ELP.
• DSCN and LOOPD got some extra definition.
• Switch Port initialize has been rewritten for clarity.
• Some corrections to Principal Switch selection.
• Some clarifications to Isolation.
• Annex A is now the Switch Profile annex.
• Annex B added to contain Switch Port initialization examples.
• Annex C added as per agreement with FC-AE group.
{Add Editor’s “thank you” section here!}

X3.xxx-199x
draft proposed American National Standard
for Information Technology
Fibre Channel —
Switch Fabric (FC-SW)
Secretariat
Information Technology Industry Council
Approved ,199
American National Standards Institute, Inc.
Abstract
This standard describes the requirements for an interconnecting Fabric consisting of multiple Fabric
Switch elements to support the ANSI X3.230-1994 Fibre Channel - Physical and Signaling Interface
(FC-PH) standard.
iv
Approval of an American National Standard requires verification by ANSI that the
requirements for due process, consensus, and other criteria for approval have
been met by the standards developer.
Consensus is established when, in the judgement of the ANSI Board of Standards
Review, substantial agreement has been reached by directly and materially
affected interests. Substantial agreement means much more than a simple
majority, but not necessarily unanimity. Consensus requires that all views and
objections be considered, and that a concerted effort be made towards their
resolution.
The use of American National Standards is completely voluntary; their existence
does not in any respect preclude anyone, whether he has approved the standards
or not, from manufacturing, marketing, purchasing, or using products, processes,
or procedures not conforming to the standards.
The American National Standards Institute does not develop standards and will in
no circumstances give interpretation on any American National Standard.
Moreover, no person shall have the right or authority to issue an interpretation of
an American National Standard in the name of the American National Standards
Institute. Requests for interpretations should be addressed to the secretariat or
sponsor whose name appears on the title page of this standard.
CAUTION NOTICE: This American National Standard may be revised or
withdrawn at any time. The procedures of the American National Standards
Institute require that action be taken periodically to reaffirm, revise, or withdraw this
standard. Purchasers of American National Standards may receive current
information on all standards by calling or writing the American National Standards
Institute.
The developers of this Standard have requested that holder's of patents that may
be required for the implementation of the Standard, disclose such patents to the
publisher. However, neither the developers nor the publisher have undertaken a
patent search in order to identify which, if any, patents may apply to this Standard.
As of the date of publication of this Standard and following calls for the identification
of patents that may be required for the implementation of the Standard, no such
claims have been made. No further patent search is conducted by the developer
or the publisher in respect to any Standard it processes. No representation is made
or implied that licenses are not required to avoid infringement in the use of this
Standard.
