With the widespread application of microcomputers, especially the emergence of high-performance and cost-effective single-chip microcontrollers, digital measurement methods based on single-chip microcontrollers have been widely used in rotational speed measurement. This paper is about the design of an intelligent rotational speed measurement instrument controlled by the AT89C51 single-chip microcontroller. During the operation of the motor, it needs to be monitored, and rotational speed is an essential parameter. This system is used to measure the rotational speed of the motor, communicate with a PC, display the motor's rotational speed, and observe the basic operation of the motor. This design mainly uses the AT89C51 as the control core, consisting of a Hall sensor, LED digital tubes, HIN232CPE level converter, and RS232. It provides a detailed introduction to the rotational speed measurement system using a single-chip microcontroller and the serial communication between the PC and the single-chip microcontroller. It fully utilizes the performance of the single-chip microcontroller. The focus of this paper is to measure the speed and display it on a 5-digit LED digital tube. Its advantages include simple circuitry, complete software functions, fast and accurate speed measurement, reliable control system, and cost-effectiveness.
