Speech enhancement technology is essential for improving the quality of speech signals by reducing background noise and distortion, ultimately enhancing speech intelligibility. This study focuses on the use of spectral subtraction for speech enhancement, as it has proven to be an effective method in previous research. The paper begins by discussing the significance of speech enhancement and provides a detailed comparison of various speech enhancement algorithms, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. The study also delves into the fundamental theories behind speech enhancement to establish a strong theoretical foundation. The research methodology involves the implementation of spectral subtraction for speech enhancement, utilizing MATLAB for simulation and analysis. Additionally, the study incorporates speech active detection (VAD) for noise estimation in the speech signal.
