Pulse measuring instrument is widely used in our daily life. In order to improve the simplicity and accuracy of pulse measuring instrument, a new design based on AT89C51 single-chip microcontroller is presented in this paper. The system uses AT89C51 single-chip microcontroller as the core, and employs an infrared light emitting diode and a photo transistor as the sensors, with the internal timer of the microcontroller used to calculate time. The photo transistor senses the generation of pulses, and the microcontroller accumulates the pulses to obtain the number of pulse beats, while the time is obtained from the timer. During operation, the system can display the number of pulse beats and the time, and when the system stops running, it can display the total number of pulse beats and time.
