Summary: This study focuses on the design of an automatic pet feeder based on a microcontroller. The feeder allows pet owners to pre-set five feeding times, and when the designated time arrives, the system provides a feeding signal to attract the pet and dispense the food. The main objective of this design is to determine the five feeding times and generate the feeding signal. The pet feeder system consists of microcontroller control, automatic switch and buzzer alert, and a countdown timer setting system. During the feeding process, the user can set five countdown times using a keyboard. As each designated time is reached, the LED lights up, the buzzer sounds, and the food is dispensed to attract the pet for feeding. This design solves the problem of pet feeding during working hours or holidays when the owner is not around, avoiding irregular eating habits and related issues. The microcontroller is utilized to control various systems within the feeder. The countdown system displays the remaining time on a six-digit seven-segment display. The microcontroller continuously reads the time and determines whether it has reached the feeding time. The switch system consists of resistors and LEDs, where a low voltage signal activates the LED to indicate the opening of the switch for food dispensing. A buzzer is also connected, which sounds when it is time for feeding to attract the pet.
