Abstract The convention and exhibition industry is a rapidly growing service industry and one of the most promising industries in modern times. With over 3,000 exhibitions held in China each year, it is expected to continue its strong growth in the coming decades. The convention and exhibition industry has provided a driving force for the country's economic development, but it also requires a significant investment of manpower, resources, and finances. The construction costs alone for exhibition halls are substantial, and many cities still lack the quantity and scale of exhibition halls needed to meet the demand. Meanwhile, the advent of the "internet age" has transformed human society. The internet has become the second space where people live, forming an important platform for information exchange in modern society. This has brought new opportunities and challenges to the convention and exhibition industry. In response to this, a new type of exhibition model has emerged in China - online exhibitions. Online exhibitions have addressed the limitations of traditional exhibitions, such as being constrained by venue and environmental factors. More and more government bodies and industry organizations have recognized this and placed a strong emphasis on the development of online exhibitions. This study begins by exploring the current research status of online exhibitions in China and clarifies the basic concepts. It then provides a comprehensive comparison between online exhibitions and physical exhibitions, highlighting their differences and analyzing the advantages of online exhibitions. The study also investigates the functions of online exhibitions. Finally, it offers recommendations for the future development of online exhibitions. Keywords: China, online exhibitions, advantages, functions, development recommendations.
