In conclusion, digital image processing is a crucial field that involves the conversion of image signals into digital format and their subsequent manipulation using computer algorithms. Image enhancement is a widely used method in digital image processing, playing a significant role in improving the quality of images. This paper provides an overview of the principles of image enhancement, classifies various methods of image enhancement, and presents the theoretical basis of several commonly used enhancement methods, such as histogram enhancement, contrast enhancement, smoothing, and sharpening. Through Matlab experiments, the actual processing effects of different algorithms are compared, and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. The technical key points of different enhancement algorithms are also explored, and a performance evaluation of their image enhancement methods is conducted.
