The LED dot matrix display screen, composed of multiple independent LED light emitting diodes, is capable of displaying numbers or symbols and is commonly used to display time, speed, and system status. The design discussed in this thesis utilizes a 40-pin single-chip microcomputer 80C51 produced by the American company ATMEL as the core control system for the LED dot matrix electronic display screen. The display screen is capable of showing 4 Chinese characters, achieved through the use of 16 8x8 LED display modules to form 4 16x16 dot matrix display modes. The display utilizes dynamic display to allow for static display of text. This thesis provides a detailed introduction to the hardware design concept of the LED dot matrix display, the functions and principles of various parts of the hardware circuit, the program design of the corresponding software, as well as usage instructions.
