The visual systems of different animals can vary significantly depending on their evolutionary and environmental pressures. For example, birds have much better color vision than most mammals, as they need to be able to distinguish between different colored fruits and insects in order to survive. In contrast, nocturnal animals like bats and owls have highly sensitive low-light vision, as they need to be able to navigate and hunt in the dark. Other differences might include the placement and composition of photoreceptor cells in the eyes, the anatomy of the visual processing centers in the brain, and the ability to perceive different types of visual stimuli such as polarized light or ultraviolet radiation.
