With the rapid development of technology in recent years, the application of microcontrollers is becoming increasingly pervasive, driving the continuous improvement of traditional control and detection techniques. In real-time detection and automatic control systems utilizing microcontrollers, the microcontroller often serves as a central component. However, mere knowledge of the microcontroller itself is not sufficient; it is necessary to integrate hardware and software based on specific hardware structures to enhance overall functionality. At busy intersections where vehicles shuttle and pedestrians bustle, traffic flows smoothly with the help of an automated traffic signal control system. There are various ways to control traffic signals, but this particular system employs the MSC-51 series microcontroller ATSC51 and programmable parallel I/O interface chip 80C51 as the central devices for the traffic light controller design. This system allows for setting the duration of red and green lights based on actual traffic flow through the P1 port of the 8051 chip. The system operates by looping the red and green lights and flashing the yellow light as a warning when there are a few seconds left in the countdown.
