The .sortrows() function is a method in MATLAB and Octave that sorts the rows of a matrix in ascending or descending order based on one or more specified columns. It takes one or more column indices as input and returns the sorted matrix.
For example, if we have a matrix A:
A = [4 2 6;
1 5 3;
9 7 8];
We can sort the rows of the matrix based on the first column using:
B = sortrows(A,1);
This will return:
B = [1 5 3;
4 2 6;
9 7 8];
which is the same matrix as A, but with the rows sorted in ascending order based on the first column.
We can also sort the rows based on multiple columns by specifying more than one column index. For example, to sort the rows based on the first and third columns, we can use:
C = sortrows(A,[1 3]);
This will return:
C = [1 5 3;
4 2 6;
9 7 8];
which is the same matrix as A, but with the rows sorted in ascending order based on the first column, and then on the third column for any ties.
