Abstract: This paper presents a detailed description of the design of an ultrasonic ranging device based on a single-chip microcontroller. Ultrasonic waves have advantages such as strong directionality, slow energy consumption, and long-distance transmission. Therefore, using ultrasonic waves to measure distance is currently the most common method in distance measuring solutions that combine automation control technology and sensor application technology. It is widely used in anti-theft systems, reverse parking sensors, water level measurement, construction sites, and some industrial fields. The paper introduces the principle and characteristics of ultrasonic sensors, and discusses the performance and features of Atmel's AT89C52 microcontroller. Based on the analysis of the principle of ultrasonic ranging, the paper proposes the ideas and issues to be considered in this design, and presents a design scheme that integrates the AT89C52 microcontroller as the core, LCD display circuit, hardware production, and software design.
